About the writers of this unit of work
Kelly Booker is Assistant Principal at Macgregor Primary School in the ACT. She has completed a Masters in Education and is completing her PhD in the area of struggling readers. Kelly is currently working as a literacy and numeracy field officer, guiding teachers in improving their instructional techniques. She is a passionate believer in the use of quality children’s literature in the classroom and has published an article on this approach and presented her research at state and national conferences. Kelly was the co-editor of the ALEA journal Literacy Learning: The Middle Years.
Jantiena Batt is Deputy Principal at Maribyrnong Primary School in the ACT. She has completed a Masters in Professional Studies with a major in Pedagogy (Quality Teaching). Jantiena has worked as an instructional coach in different roles across the Education and Training Directorate in the ACT, including as a literacy and numeracy field officer, as an early literacy and numeracy officer and as a First Steps reading and writing facilitator. In these roles she has worked across 40 schools in Canberra. Jantiena has developed professional learning sessions at school, cluster, state and national levels to further mediate the transfer of quality literacy teaching.
