Jan Finlayson is a literacy consultant based in Adelaide. She has taught in primary and secondary Catholic schools as an ESL teacher for 20 years. As a classroom teacher, she based her literacy programs on the principles of functional grammar, conducting classroom-based research into the efficacy of this approach. Jan is a registered tutor for the Teaching ESL Students in Mainstream Classrooms and How Language Works courses and has designed and presented literacy-based workshops both in Adelaide and Singapore. She has presented at conferences in Adelaide and in Stockholm and Gothenburg in Sweden. She is currently supporting teachers in the Association of Independent Schools of South Australia (AISSA) in their planning and programming, using the Australian Curriculum: English.
